There are two pictures showing a view of the (2) Ornate Navy Shellback Certificates in this lot. Most people who have served or are serving in the United States Navy will recognize these certificates. There are different ones issued to those sailors who find themselves at different locations on the planet. They are colorful and have many nautical symbols, Usually there are ceremonies involved. These two are ones that are issued to a Sailor when his ship crossed the Equator. These are printed on a stiff simulated parchment type paper. The first certificate has an embossed seal and also has some additional gold print.. They were both issued by Captain W.N. Johnson from the U.S.S. JASON AR8 to a sailor named James F. Rose. The first one is from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and dated March 18th, 1981. The second one is from Diego Garcia and dated December 8th, 1980. They each measure 13-7/8" x 10-7/8". They are in very good condition with each having a center fold and some wrinkling. |
