|The picture shows a view of all (4) 1890s First Sino Japanese War Magic Lantern Color Slides in this lot. These are not dated but they are believed to be from the late 1800s like the others that these were found with. These are colorized illustrations that were made into magic lantern photograph slides. A few have horrible bloody war scenes. The red numbers are not on the slides, they were digitally added by us for reference with the translations below. The scenes depicted are from the First Sino-Japanese War:|
First Sino-Japanese War
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The First Sino-Japanese War (1 August 1894 - 17 April 1895) was fought between Qing Dynasty China and Meiji Japan, primarily over control of Korea. After more than six months of continuous successes by Japanese army and naval forces and the loss of the Chinese port of Weihaiwei, the Qing leadership sued for peace in February 1895.
On the sides of the slides there are paper strips attached which are written in Japanese. We have a friend in Japan who kindly translated these title strips for us (below) and provide the following information. Thank you very much, Hiroshi! He also has provided some website links for addtional information, if interested in these, please let us know.
