The pictures below shows larger front and back views of all (7) Different Old Cracker Jack Pop Corn Confection Pot Metal or Lead Toy Prize Lapel Stud Buttons in this lot. The Cracker Jack prize ID number for these is: Z-0506 and they were from the 1930s by The Cosmo Manufacturing Company of Chicago, Illinois. The lapel stud buttons each have image, and they read as follows: (pictures a Horse) STOP YOUR HORSING (pictures a Pig or Hog) YOU REMIND ME OF A PIG (pictures a Dear) WILL YOU BE MY DEAR (pictures a Monkey) O U MONKEY (pictures a Goat) YOU GOT MY GOAT (pictures a pear) U AND I MAKE A GOOD PAIR (pictures an Ass, Donkey, or Mule) OH YOU ASS Many of the pot metal or lead prizes were manufactured by the Tootsietoy Company of Chicago, Illinois. There were other companies, including from Japan prior to World War II. Some of these type prizes were made specifically for Cracker Jack, while others were made as novelties, bought in volume, and used as prizes by The Cracker Jack Company. Pot metal or lead prizes were some of the earliest prizes that were used in Cracker Jack boxes from the 1910s to the 1940s. Many of these type prizes or novelties were also sold out of old Johnson Smith & Company catalog as well as some other early novelty catalogs, also used in fortune telling sets, and some were also sold and used as board game parts. Many of these can be found factory painted, inked, or with no finish at all. The lapel stud button measures about 3/4'' x 1/4''. They appear to range from near mint to mint condition as pictured. These particular buttons are old and unused. They came from an original sewn closed cloth bag that an employee brought home, and I had opened over 60 years after they were made. |
