In this lot there is an early paper bottle label, an old postcard, and three old advertising match covers. The years these were made are unknown, but estimates are below. The first item is the early bottle label. It has an elaborate monogram and nice lettering. The label is believed to be from the 1800s or early 1900s. It is imprinted in green and black on a white paper. There are two ''1775'' dot cancelled numbers. Written at the top there is ''June 26'' and ''MAQUA''. There is much text on both sides. The center section reads as follows: 1 PINT, 10 FLUID OUNCES NET POLAND WATER TRADE MARK NATURAL MINERAL SPRING WATER HIRAM RICKER & SONS SOUTH POLAND, ME. U.S.A. LABEL REGISTERED 1883 POLAND MINERAL SPRING WATER The second item is an old unused post card. It is believed to be from the 1920s. It pictures a beautiful large building and four early automobiles. It reads as follows: POLAND SPRING HOUSE, POLAND, MAINE Next is an old unused Poland Springs Company Christmas greeting card. It pictures an old stage coach with many people being pulled by a six horse team. The card is believed to be from the 1920s. The inside and back are blank. The front reads as follows: THE ORIGINAL POLAND SPRING COACH CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM POLAND SPRING The last three items are identical old advertising match covers. These are believed to be from the 1940s. They picture the ''POLAND SPRING HOUSE in PORTLAND SPRING, MAINE'' and an old Poland Spring Bottle. The covers read as follows: HIRAM RICKER & SONS POLAND SPRING SOUTH POLAND, ME. WHEREVER YOU GO, OR WHEREVER YOU ARE DRINK POLAND WATER ''POLAND'' NATURAL WATER - CLUB SODA - GINGER ALE To judge the sizes the label measures 5-7/8'' x 4-3/8''. The label is in very good condition with a few small edge tears. The postcard has some corner damage. The Christmas card is in near mint condition. The match covers have no matches and over all soiling, all as pictured. |
