| | | The pictures below show larger front and back views of the (3) 1938 - 1946 Maine Public Health Association 7 Point Pupil Advertising Celluloid Pin Back Buttons in this lot. As far as we know, the Maine Public Health Association had a program, at least in the 1930s and 1940s, that sent Nurses into public schools to check children in seven areas of health. We do not know about other states. Children were checked for their birth registration, their vision, hearing, dental, growth, throat, and posture. These are the seven points of a star that they used. After completing the program, a child would receive one of these pin back buttons and a certificate as a reward. There is a paper insert in the back of two of these with a union mark and they are marked on the two sides as follows: 7 POINT PUPIL 1938 (1939 and 1946) MAINE PUBLIC HEALTH ASSN. PILGRIM BADGE & SPECIALTY CO. 614 MEMORIAL DRIVE CAMBRIDGE, MASS. The pinback buttons measure 7/8'' and 1'' wide. They appears to be in near mint to mint condition as pictured. |
