This hard times copper large cent coin or token is believed to be from 1837. One side has the Merchants Exchange Building of Wall Street in New York and the other side has a wreath. It is marked on the two sides as follows: MERCHANTS EXCHANGE WALL ST. N. YORK BUILT 1827 BURNT 1835 MILLIONS FOR DEFENSE NOT ONE CENT FOR TRIBUTE The coin or token measures about 1-1/16'' wide. Please see the picture for the condition. It has a hole, wear and what appears to be sold old silver solder on the back as pictured. |
