CUBA on the left is actually not a pin. It has an easel back to stand up like a miniature framed picture. It has a celluloid insert and an embossed tin back marked: "PAT. APP'D FOR C.B.W. SWEET CAPORAL CIGARETTES" #2. ORANGE FREESTATE has a celluloid insert and an embossed tin back. It is marked "Sweet Caporal Cigarettes". #3. GERMANY has a celluloid covering and an embossed tin back. It is marked "Sweet Caporal Cigarettes". #4. GERMANY has a celluloid covering and a paper insert in the back. The insert reads: "SWEET CAPORAL CIGARETTES - STANDARD FOR YEARS - FACTORY NO. 42, 4th DISTRICT N.C. - THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J. - PATENTED JULY 21, 1898". #5. FRANKFORT has a celluloid covering and a paper insert in the back. The insert reads: "SWEET CAPORAL CIGARETTES - STANDARD FOR YEARS - FACTORY NO. 30, 2nd DISTRICT N.Y.". #6. CHILI has a celluloid covering and a paper insert in the back. The insert reads: "THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J. PATENTED JULY 17, 1894, APRIL 14, 1896, JULY 21, 1896". #7. VICTORIA has a celluloid covering and a paper insert in the back. The pin is missing. The insert reads: "SWEET CAPORAL CIGARETTES - BUTTONS MANUFACTURED BY THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. BADGES BUTTONS NEWARK, N.J. PAT. JULY 21, 1890, JULY 17, 1894, APRIL 14, 1896". #8. COSTA RICA has a celluloid covering and an embossed tin back. It is stamped twice "Sweet Caporal Cigarettes". #9. CUBA has a celluloid covering. The paper insert missing. #10. GREECE has a celluloid covering. The paper insert missing. #11. EQUADOR has a celluloid covering. The paper insert and pin are missing. All of these for one price! To judge the sizes the rectangular Cuba one measures 3/4" x 1". These older pins vary widely in condition, please see the picture to judge. |
